Governor Wolf has announced that beginning May 1, 2020, all businesses in the construction industry statewide will be permitted to resume in-person operations. These businesses however will be permitted to operate subject to strict compliance with governmental guidance. The construction activities permitted beginning May 1, 2020 include new construction, renovation, repair, subdivision and land development and design-related field activities.
All employers and employees in the construction industry should refer to the policies established and published by the Governor’s Administration, as well as the Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, for further guidance on how to operate their specific construction activities resuming or beginning May 1, 2020. The Administration’s guidance is designed to permit the resumption of construction activities and to prevent or mitigate the spread of COVID-19, while ensuring that the workers, as well as the general public, remain healthy and safe.
Among the policies is the requirement that all workers remain a minimum of six feet apart unless the safety of the workers or the general public require such deviation from the required minimum as well as the requirement that employers stagger the shifts and breaks of its workers.
