The Greater Philadelphia Chapter of The Society of Financial Services Professionals got some new ideas and powerful solutions from trust estate and wealth preservation attorney David M. Frees III of Unruh, Turner, Burke and Frees.
Frees addressed the group recently at the Villanova Conference Center and also covered some of the time sensitive issues of gifting at the end of 2012, the possibilities for a new federal estate tax law, and how advisors can help their clients to navigate these uncertain times.
According to Frees, “There are a number of very powerful trusts that can be used to protect your surviving spouse and other heirs not only from excessive estate taxes, but also from law suits, creditors, and from the negative effects of a divorce.”
“Many clients worry more about a son, daughter or a grandchild losing his or her inheritance to a divorce than they do about the estate taxes. And, with a 52% divorce rate, we understand why. Most clients are delighted to find that there are things that they can do to prevent this loss of inheritances.”
Frees who is author of Enhanced Estate Planning and The Ten Most Common Mistakes Executors Make and How To Avoid Them, provided copies of these resources to the advisors in attendance.
